Yesterday evening, a hacker successfully attacked Poly Network. And the hacker was able to steal $600 million from the protocol! But according to the hacker, it could have been even more. In a transaction on Ethereum, the hacker implemented a message stating:
“It would have been a billion hack if I had moved remaining shitcoins! Did I just save the project? Not so interested in money, now considering returning some tokens or just leaving them there.”Poly Network Hacker
On the other hand, the Chinese cybersecurity firm SlowMist already identified the attacker’s email address, IP address, and device fingerprint. However, the cybersecurity firm did not reveal this information yet. But they stated:
“Combined with the flow of funds and multiple fingerprint information, it can be found that this is likely to be a long-planned, organized, and prepared attack.”Cybersecurity firm SlowMist
The hacker used Monero to fund this attack, which he then exchanged to BNB, ETH, and MATIC.
DeFi still bears smart contract risks! A good way to protect yourself from such hacks is diversification.
